Autumn Social Sunday, 16th September 2018

The most decorated man of the show?

Another fantastic day of sun for the Autumn Social and Produce Show!

Entries came thick and fast for the Produce show, with the highly contested ‘Best in Show’ being awarded to the sweetest tomatoes the judges had ever tasted! Families and children entered wonderful, creative and imaginative scarecrows, Veggie Bugs and Bug houses – the judges had a very hard time. The ‘Tallest Sunflower’ award went to a worthy winner, presented by Dave from the HW Safer Neighbourhood Team (who also won an award for their community plot pumpkin).

The awards for the Family Scarecrow competition were presented by Cllr Jim Millard, who enjoyed it so much he’s already booked in for next year and we were doubly honoured to have two judges from NPL to weigh and award the prizes for this year’s pumpkin competition – the People’s Pumpkin winner provided great entertainment with her entry! Top hot dogs and veggie burgers flew off the bbqs, the Beer Tent ran out of ‘Naked Ladies’ too early and delicious cakes and hot drinks were served by our hardworking cafe volunteers.

Not enough jam donations this year on the Home Produce Stall – come on all you home cooks! Lucky Raffle winners took prizes including a £40 voucher for the Lion pub, vouchers from A G Miller the Butcher (who provide the BBQ sausages), a Lensbury family day and tickets for the Globe Theatre.

A terrific event that works so well, thanks to all the hard work of the Social committee in planning and organising the Social and the volunteers without whom we couldn’t do it! And thanks to everyone who entered competitions and who turned up with family and friends to enjoy the day!

Jenny Bourne, RPA Social Secretary

STOP PRESS: the numbers are in and the event as a whole made an admirable £556.81 net profit + bumper cafe takings.
